The Authentication Session Has Expired Please Login Again Microsoft Onenote

Hi RickKurtz1,

Thank you for querying in this forum. We do understand the inconvenience caused and apologize for it. And we will try our best to help you.

According to your description, it seems that you have purchased Microsoft 365 and you also downloaded from Microsoft site, however, you still encountered an error message "The authentication session has expired. Please sign-in again.".

May I know if my understanding is right? If so, we'd give you some suggestions below and hope that will help you:

  1. Sign out and quit all Office applications . (If you have signed out the other Office apps)
  2. Go to Finder > Applications > Utilities >KeychainAccess and remov e  the following password entries: Microsoft Office Identities Cache 2 and Microsoft Office Identities Settings 2
  3. Search for all occurrences of ADAL in thekeychain and remov e  all those entries if present.
  4. Restart Mac, open Office and use your account now to sign in again.

If the same problem still persists after trying the suggestion above, to better understand your situation, could you provide the information below?

  1. Could you provide the screenshot of error message?
  2. Could you provide the version of your Office? You can go to Word > About Word and provide the screenshot of it.
  3. Could you provide the version of Mac OS?
  4. Do all office applications have the same problem?

Best Regards,

Sukie

1) I can't sign to any of the Microsoft apps

2) I had previously deleted all Microsoft password entries in the Keychain entries per review of previous posts on this subject.  Same as all occurrences of ADAL

3) did uninstall and reinstall all apps

4) Still getting error

I don't know what version of office I have because I can't log in.  It was just downloaded from the MS site.

MAC SW version is 10.15.7

All the office applications have the same problem

Hi RickKurrtz1,

We appreciate that you posted back and shared the detailed information with us. We also appreciate that you spent your precious time doing those tests.

We have read your description carefully, it seems that you cannot sign in any Office applications. And you have also tried deleting all keychains and reinstalling Office, however, the same problem still persists.

If my understanding is right, we want to give you some other suggestions below and hope that will help you:

At the first, you can go to here to check if your account is valid. Go to https://account.microsoft.com/services/  and sign in. Go to Your account >Subscriptions to check if you have the license.

  1. If you have the related license, since you have tried clearing keychains, You can refer to this article: How to remove Office license files on a Mac to use license remov altool to remov e  the license  files on your Mac.
  2. If the suggestion above doesn't work, we also noticed that you have reinstalled Office, we'd suggest you refer to this article: Troubleshoot Office for Mac issues by completely uninstalling before you reinstall to uninstall your Office completely before you reinstall. Which contains some cache files. Then you can go to this page to download the latest version of Office 16.43 then sign in again to check if the same problem will occur.
  3. If all suggestions above all don't work, we'd suggest you try creating a new user profile on Mac to check if the same problem will occur.

Please do let us know if that works for you, we'll be glad to provide further help.

Best Regards,

Sukie

The only option that worked was to create a new user account.

Why is that?  I really don't want to have that as a solution.  How do I migrate all my old user files and data to the new user?

Thank you

Hi RickKurtz1,

We appreciate that you posted back again and shared the test results with us. I'm sorry for the late reply.

Based on your description, it seems that you can solve the problem via creating new user profile.

If so, this issue may be related to old user profile on Mac and the old user profile may be corrupted. We do understand the inconvenience caused and apologize for it. Since this issue is related to old user profile on Mac, we'd suggest you contact Apple support to check if they will help you solve the problem of old user profile on Mac. And we'd suggest you use the new user profile you created on Mac.

At the same time, you mentioned that you want to migrate files from old user profile to new user profile, we have also searched a lot, we have searched some related threads: How do I move all my files from one User Profile (account) into another? I needed to create a new account and want all of my files accessible in the new one. Can you transfer files between two user accounts on the same macbook pro?.

If you want to know about how to migrate files from old user profile to new user profile, we'd suggest you go to Apple support to achieve more support.
